Welcome! This is Hope Sparks, a weekly newsletter about making changes in our lives. Did somebody forward this to you? You can subscribe to the Hope Sparks Substack here.
This week I’m taking a break.
I’m breaking my rules.
We all have rules.
Rules that govern our hearts, minds and spirits. Don’t get me wrong. These rules aren’t all bad. But they can hem us in if we don’t stop and evaluate them from time to time.
I see rules as containers and guidelines we create for order in our lives. There’s no one rule book for us humans. We each make them up—concocted from all sorts of references. Some rules develop over time. A few we adopt from others. Several are hardwired in from our families. And of course rules can pop into our daily rhythm in response to fears or aspirations—landing hard and fast.
We assume they’re here to stay.
I’ll counter that.
Breaking the rules frees up space for the unimaginable horizon—the what else?
With spring fast approaching, there is growth in the air.
Do you feel it?
Spring cleaning rules is top of mind. What do you think? It’s time to open the windows and let some dusty rules fly.
My head matched the foggy sky this morning. I could hear my internal voice thrumming, “what rules need a re-haul, Hopey? And which ones do you feel like breaking this week?”
To get this perspective I’ll take space to pause within. Switch my rhythm. Unlock my mindful body with walks in nature. Yes, I will even peel my socks off and plunge my feet into the still frozen lake. Brrrr.
What rules do you feel like breaking this week? I’d love to hear.
I’ll be back next week. I promise to share the rules I’m breaking, and some exciting news.
